How To Start The 100 Day Project

Choose a Theme

It could be something fun or it could be something you are wanting to improve on. I have seen people do 100 selfies, 100 aprons, 100 pictures, and many other projects.

My projects have been sketching, flashcards, fodder, and daily practice.

The point is to choose one thing and do it for 100 days. It really can improve your skills.

Theme Ideas:

Faces, birds, collage, watercolor, vintage-inspired, lettering, quotes, positivity, botanicals, sketches, intuitive painting, meditations, abstract, inks, pencil drawings, and the list goes on.

Prepare Materials

Gathering supplies for this project helps you remain successful.

The year, I did a daily practice I cut 100-3 inch X 3-inch cards of watercolor paper. I bought a new mechanical pencil and a fun watercolor palette. On the back of each card, I wrote ideas for each day when ideas came to me. This really helped me stay focused and set me up for success.

Another year, I bought a 100-page sketchbook and new mechanical pencil, eraser pen, and extra led for the pencil. I put it all in a little pouch so that it was easy to carry with me wherever I went.

The point is to prepare ahead to make the project easy to do.

Start Working Before the Start Date

This is something that I have adapted for the last two years. I will start one or two weeks before the project starts so that I can have some wiggle room.

I would also look at my week and if I knew it was a busy day/week I would plan for that. I would use the time I had to prep days or even complete extra days. This has been a GAME CHANGER for me. I still have the spirit of the project by ensuring I am doing 100 projects and with that I find my skills improved.

Share/Join the Community

There is nothing more inspiring than joining a community of creatives trying to expand their skills. Each project is different and unique. This community is an important dynamic to this project. It makes it fun and I always look forward to seeing what the others post. There is a hashtag on Instagram that everyone uses and some have a separate hashtag they use that is unique to their project. For instance, I used the hashtag #leacas100daysofvintageflashcards, and now it is so easy to go back and look at my project in its entirety.

Creativity has always been a large part of my life. I believe that everyone is a creative, some people just have not discovered their passion yet. My goal is to share the message, “Go Forth and Create!”

Mixed media is my love. I thrive on the freedom of working in any medium I want and combining watercolor, ink, acrylics, fabrics-everything is fair game.

Living in Alaska, I am surrounded by beauty. I find the scenery and the people equally inspiring. the world is endlessly providing inspiration and my mission is to take full advantage. My favorites include color, nature, family, books, people and so much more.
