Slow Stitching to Hygge Movies

I wanted to watch a cozy film while I stitched on the couch. I searched some titles and found a few that might work. I am sure there are more but this is a great start.

  1. The Holiday (2006) - A romantic comedy set during the holiday season, perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere.

  2. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - Wes Anderson's signature style often creates visually stunning and quirky worlds that can be quite comforting.

  3. Julie & Julia (2009) - This movie combines two heartwarming stories: the life of chef Julia Child and the journey of a woman who decides to cook her way through Child's cookbook.

  4. About Time (2013) - A romantic comedy-drama with a time travel twist that emphasizes the importance of cherishing everyday moments.

  5. Midnight in Paris (2011) - Woody Allen's film is a nostalgic and whimsical exploration of Paris' romantic charm.

  6. Little Women (2019) - The 2019 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel has a cozy, period drama feel that's perfect for a hygge movie night.

  7. Chef (2014) - A film about a chef who rediscovers his passion for cooking and life, with lots of mouthwatering food scenes.

  8. 100 Foot Journey (2014) -The Kadam family leaves India for France where they open a restaurant directly across the road from Madame Mallory's Michelin-starred eatery. This is one of my favorites. I am not ashamed to admit that I was drawn to the film because Indian food was involved.

  9. You’ve Got Mail (1998) - Book superstore magnate Joe Fox and independent book shop owner Kathleen Kelly fall in love in the anonymity of the Internet, both blissfully unaware that he's trying to put her out of business.

  10. Crossing Delancy (1988) - A Manhattan single meets a man through her Jewish grandmother's matchmaker. One of my all time favorites.

  11. Family Stone (2006) - An uptight, liberal businesswoman accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family's annual Christmas celebration and finds that she's a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life.

  12. Something’s Gotta Give (2003) - A swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an accomplished woman closer to his age.

  13. Baby Boom (1987) - The life of super-yuppie J.C. is thrown into turmoil when she inherits a baby from a distant relative.

The list goes on but what makes a movie hygge is subjective, the cozy feeling you get from a film. But this cozy feeling might vary from person to person. I was reading a book on hygge last year and the writer suggested that a hygge movie can me a suspense film to some. These movies often have elements of warmth, nostalgia, and beautiful settings, which align with the hygge concept of creating a cozy and comforting environment no matter what the genre.

What movies give off hygge vibes to you?
