Five Mindful Art Journal Ideas
"The only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs
Being in the moment is a practice that I have been working on over the years. When I feel myself getting overwhelmed it usually means I am living in the future and not the present. Being in the moment grounds me and I can see life more clearly.
Creating in your journal with out expectation and just play is a great way to ground you and your practice. Remember, be present not perfect.
Collage Pages: Create a collage page in your art journal using images and words from magazines or newspapers. This can be a great way to express your thoughts and feelings without having to write anything down. Use different textures and colors to create a visually interesting page.
Nature Pages: Create a page in your art journal inspired by nature. When I go on a walk I will bring back three treasures. I look for textures, colors and shapes. When I get home I create using my three objects as inspiration.
Mindful Coloring Pages: Create a page in your art journal that is specifically designed for coloring. Use a mandala or other intricate design and color it in with different colors. This can be a great way to practice mindfulness and reduce stress. I have a journal that I just sketch faces and then later I paint them. I use it as a coloring book of sorts.
Word Art Pages: Create a page in your art journal that is inspired by a word or phrase that resonates with you. Use different fonts, sizes, and colors to create a visually interesting page that captures the essence of the word or phrase. This can be a great way to focus on a particular intention or theme. Have you taken Wendy Solganik’s Love Your Imperfect Letters Course? I have been using that class to inspire my lettering.
Gratitude Pages: Create a page in your art journal where you list out things that you are grateful for. This can be anything from the people in your life to the things that make you happy. Use different colors, images, and patterns to make the page visually interesting and inspiring.
I love coffee shops and when I have the time I like to sit in a coffee shop and sketch. I put on headphones, zone out, and sketch. I fill the pages with little things I am grateful for. The smell of fresh coffee, words in songs, the mug I am drinking from, and anything else that pops in the moment.
If you create mindfully share about it in the Facebook group.
