December Challenge : Art Journal and Journal Writing Prompts
Every challenge is an opportunity to explore, create, and connect with your inner world. This month, I’m excited to share both a journal writing challenge and an art challenge designed to spark your imagination and deepen your reflections. These prompts—Tangible, Thought, Tender Mercies, Together for writing, and Tag, Tree, Taste, Thought for art—are invitations to explore your creativity in new ways.
Whether you’re a seasoned creator or just starting, these challenges are designed to inspire and bring joy to your journaling and art-making practices. Let’s dive in!
Art Challenge
Art is a visual language that allows us to express what words sometimes can’t. The prompts for this month’s art challenge are versatile and open-ended—perfect for journaling pages, mixed media, or standalone pieces.
Tag: Create a tag that reflects a personal message or feeling. Use layers, textures, and embellishments to tell a story.
Tree: Let the symbolism of a tree inspire you. Its roots represent grounding, its trunk strength, and its branches growth. Experiment with painting, collaging, or even stitching your interpretation.
Taste: Use your senses! Reflect on a favorite flavor or meal and translate it into art. Play with colors, patterns, or textures that evoke the essence of taste.
Thought: Create a piece that embodies a single thought or phrase that has been on your mind. How can you visually represent its energy, weight, or impact?
Tangible
Spark Writing:
Feel the weight: Write about an object you hold every day. How does it feel in your hands? What stories could it tell if it could speak?
From unseen to real: Think of a dream or goal you’ve worked on that became tangible. What did it feel like to finally touch or hold it?
Grounded in reality: What tangible item represents safety, home, or love to you? Why does it carry that significance?
Handcrafted memories: Recall a time you created something with your hands. How did the process of making it change you?
Thought
Spark Writing:
The weight of a thought: Describe a single thought that changed the course of your day—or your life. Why did it have such power?
Wandering minds: Where does your mind wander when it’s free? How do those wandering thoughts reflect your heart?
Invisible threads: Write about the connection between thoughts and actions. How do your thoughts shape your reality?
Quiet the noise: Reflect on a time when you silenced your thoughts to find clarity or peace. What was revealed in the stillness?
Tender Mercies
Spark Writing:
Unexpected grace: Write about a time when a small, unexpected kindness changed your perspective or brightened your day.
Whispered blessings: Tender mercies often come quietly. What are some quiet blessings you’ve received lately that might go unnoticed by others?
A soft place to fall: Who or what in your life represents tenderness and mercy when you need it most?
In the details: Write about how you find evidence of care and compassion in the smallest details of your life.
Together
Spark Writing:
The bond of togetherness: Reflect on a time when being with someone—family, friends, or even a stranger—brought you comfort or joy.
Building bridges: Describe a relationship that grew stronger through shared experiences. What made the connection deepen?
A world united: Imagine a world where "together" is the central theme. How would it look? Feel? Operate?
Alone versus together: Compare the emotions of solitude and togetherness. When do you crave one over the other, and why?
